Blockland Review

How good an FPS is Blockland?

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

Due to being a sandbox and having many mods, this can only be answered on a per server basis. Though, it's more orientated towards arena shooters, as there's a cap on how fast projectiles can move.

How open is Blockland to explore?

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

Many players have made many expansive builds to explore. Though if none of these servers are up, you'd have to go look through the gallery section of the forums to see if you can find anything to download and explore.

How much fun are the weapons in Blockland?

Ɣįťūś (after 25 days 7 hours play time)

the vanilla ones are unfunny unless you have add-ons

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

Both the default weapons along with many of the add-on weapons are fun to use, and offer many different gameplay styles.

How well does Blockland let you develop your character?

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

This depends on the server you're on. By default, all you really have is the appearance customization, your name, and that's about it. However, there are some RPG servers or other servers that let you rack up points to buy things with.

How creative can you be in Blockland?

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

Out of all the sandbox games I've played, Blockland probably offers the most room for creativity. Your only limitations are the brick grid, and the scripting language. The brick grid, however, is significantly smaller than a typical voxel sandbox game's. You're playing with Legos, essentially, rather than giant cubes. As far as modding goes, the only things that really require the client to download the same mod as the server are ones that add more to the interface, or add more controls. Any assets, such as models, bricks, sounds, and all that are downloaded while loading the server.

How does Blockland compare to the other LEGO games?

Ɣįťūś (after 25 days 7 hours play time)

Characters,open-world,etc.

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

It's incomparable. Blockland is a fully fledged online sandbox game. The LEGO games are adventure games, none of which allow co-operative building.

How much freedom does Blockland give you?

Ɣįťūś (after 25 days 7 hours play time)

Pretty much. You have freedom to anything (EXPECT THE OVERLAPS AND FLOATING BRICKS)

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

There's room for more freedom. But it gives significantly more freedom than other sandbox games, and gives the more important freedoms. One of the major benefits is that the community runs it's own servers, not having to force any global set of rules beyond hacking and key sharing.
Though when it comes to customizing your player, it's very lacking, and isn't something the player can just mod. The servers are what require the modding, thus your customizations won't carry over between them.

How scary are the zombies in Blockland?

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

First and foremost, I'm the kind of person to say "Zombies aren't scary, ever." That being said, they aren't intended to be scary in Blockland. Most of the game is rather silly. Though, in terms of gameplay 'scary', having a hoard charging at you when you're not prepared can be heart-racing.

i don't know which one to choose,try Midway Sentinel's weapon add-ons i guess?

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

Blockland Glass is nearly mandatory. It's still in development, and is currently trying it's best to fill the hole a previous mod had left. It offers in-game mod downloading, a friend's list (because the steam integration isn't all that good), global chatting, and an interface for changing additional server settings. The new duplicator is also a very powerful building tool, which, despite it's name, has become for more than just duplicating, including mirroring, mass deletion, modifying multiple bricks (color, other properties), and probably some other things. These should both be downloaded whether or not you plan on hosting a server.

How good are the graphics in Blockland?

lego, not choppy at all unless you have everything at low (obvious, right?)

It doesn't offer any native anti-aliasing, and the graphics aren't overly detailed. That being said, the game still looks good. It has it's own unique style.

How good are the sounds in Blockland?

meh

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

If there were any sound I'd change, it's definitely the spray paint sound. Spraying for long periods of times feels nauseating to me for whatever reason. However, everything else is perfect. The springy jump noise is silly, but yet I feel as if this makes everyone jump around even more than usual, like they like hearing it.

How does Blockland run on your PC?

Ɣįťūś (after 25 days 7 hours play time)

60,82 fps

nul (after 16 days 6 hours play time)

Most people think "this game has simple graphics, why does looking at this city lag me???", and, that's because they're looking at hundreds of thousands of objects at once. So, while it's not exactly friendly to low-end computers when on servers with massive builds, it does run totally fine for me. It's well optimized though, as it's unlikely that they'd be able to handle that many objects in any other game.

How good is the Mac port of Blockland?

It has some bugs not present in the windows version. Otherwise it's exactly the same.

The standalone Mac version works fine, however, the Steam Mac version has some problems. There is a workaround for it, and other than that, I haven't seen any other problems.
