The question of Fallout 76 mod support has gotten a definitive answer from Todd Howard. The massive gameplay reveal of Fallout 76 at Bethesda’s E3 2018 press conference answered a lot of questions about how the entirely online Fallout game would function, but one feature that the multiplayer aspect of Fallout 76 threw into question was whether or not the game will feature mod support.
Talking to Geoff Keighley on the YouTube Gaming Show, Bethesda’s Todd Howard says, “we love mods, and so we are 100% committed to doing that in 76 as well. We will not be able to do that at launch though. Our goal for launch – this is really new for us – is to have a well-running, robust service, and then some period later, we’re currently still designing what that service looks like, you’ll be able to have your own private world and be able to mod it and do all of that.

“With our games, that’s where the long-term life of them really is. That is trickier when you get into an online world, but we’re definitely committed to that. It just won’t be at launch.”
While it was great to get aFallout 76 release date, not to mention one that’s barely half a year away, many PC players were concerned that the new online direction of the series had resulted in the loss of features like modding. Of course the next question is how long after the game’s release will Bethesda roll out mod support? We’ll have to wait and see.
