Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite producer says you don't remember the X-Men anyway

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Capcom are releasing the next instalment of their famous brawler series, Marvel vs. Capcom, this September. There’s only one problem: Banana Claw Man won’t be in it.

Check out our list of upcoming PC games for all the dates.

What do you mean he’s called Wolverine? If only I’d watched the film that released recently with the kid and the whole The Last of Us vibe. Brogan, or something. My memory is not very good.

Yours probably isn’t either, according to Capcom’s director of production, Michael Evans. In a recent interview with GameSpot, Evans said the following:

“Your modern Marvel fan, maybe they don't even remember some of the X-Men characters, but they know some of the Guardians characters or Black Panther. You know what I mean?”

Evans is, of course, referring to the fact that the X-Men won’t be showing up in this year’s iteration of Marvel vs. Capcom, instead opting for characters from Marvel’s cinematic universe, like the aforementioned Black Panther and the lesser-known - at least until the upcoming movie - Captain Marvel.

That means there’s no Magnetic Man, no Single Eye Laser Guy, no Aluminium Dude, and so forth. Luckily, you probably won’t remember them anyway.

The producer doesn't have a clue how to respond to a valid question. Does he really think the player base is that dumb? Why not just state the truth that they are clearly supporting the cinematic goals of marvel with the character roster and leave it at that. Stop trying to justify the money grab.

Why won't they just admit it's because Disney said so?

Disney doesn't have X-men, also in a few other games and such they have X-men and MCU people together, so really if it falls under a problem because of the movies it would put the blame on Fox since they have the rights to X-men. they also have fantastic 4 it's why they made another FF recently to hang onto the rights, same reason Sony did a reboot of Spiderman with garfield to stop the rights reverting to Marvel.

Disney actually took a really bad situation for rights taking Marvel as all the IP's farmed out keep the rights as long as they are used every few years (also the reason for X-men first class) so Disney took over a studio where they have to try to renegotiate to take back an IP that belongs to them. they likely had to give Sony something big to get them to allow the use of Spiderman, but even then it seems they are keeping Spiderman stuff hostage by keeping Venom separate.

if that were completely true, then the x-men wouldn't be becoming in the console versions of Marvel Heroes Omega or the fact that a good lot of them have to show up of late in the mobile games of marvel Contest of Champions and more recently in Marvel future fight. and more importantly, they aren't using the movie costumes or content from the movies either. it mostly due to them not wanting to concentrate on these characters right now. the movie right is an issue yes but with marvel vs cap com and the fact that the producer from capcom that said this doesn't give a damn

Disney owns the rights to any X-Men or Fantastic Four properties that are not movie nor derivative works from movies. If Disney wanted to, Disney could put the X-Men in any video game they wish to. Same with Fantastic Four. They just can't make a movie tie-in video game, or sell movie tie-in action figures. That's why Marvel Legends has a new X-Men line, but nothing from Logan.

Disney is just being dickish to do as much as possible to destroy both the X-Men and Fantastic Four so Fox will either sell the rights back or let them lapse.

Are people intentionally trying to miss the point? The fact that he mentions black panther and guardians I thought it was pretty clear that they are trying to cash in on people who have only got into mahvel from watching avengers and such. Plus the context of the quote is in reference to magneto who i'm sure there is actually a ton of people who liked Logan for example but have no idea about magneto

That never stopped them from adding "lesser known" characters in MvC2. And the X-Men are pretty well known to anyone who's even played any of the original games. You'd have to have your head under a rock not to have heard of the X-Men.
