Mass Effect: Andromeda’s conversation options will be built around ‘agree’ and ‘disagree’

BioWare said earlier in the year that Mass Effect: Andromeda’s conversation options would be ditching the black and white morality of the original trilogy for shades of grey. Now the developers have gone on to say exactly how that will work.

Here’s everything we know about Mass Effect: Andromeda

In an interview with GamesRadar, creative director Max Walters explained: 

"The reason [Paragon/Renegade] are gone is because they were very tied to the Shepard character, so they didn’t really make sense if we weren’t going to have Shepard as our protagonist. What we have now is based more around agreeing and disagreeing.”

Walters says this is in reaction to how binary Paragon and Renegade are. You choose red or blue and you stick to it, not thinking about your responses on a case-by-case basis. This new solution will hopefully change that. 

"With agree and disagree it changes by the circumstance and it changes by the character you’re talking to, so you have to actually be more engaged in what’s going on, to know if you’re going to do that," Walters adds. 

These options will either come in that agree/disagree flavour, or you will be able to choose between four tones when responding to people. Thing is, if I’m given the option to headbutt someone mid-conversation, I’m going to do that every single time. 

“I think that gets back to that more traditional role-playing sort of feeling which is less about, 'Do I want to be good or bad,' and more about, 'How do I want to express myself?'" says Walters. With headbutts, Walters. With headbutts. 

Mass Effect: Andromeda comes out on March 21 in NA, and March 23 in Europe.

The real question is whether or not what you pick will truly represent what you character says and the tone with which he/she says it. I was always infuriated with Bioware games where you pick what seems like the most reasonable conversation choice, only to have you character go off the rails when he/she actually speaks that option's real dialogue. I am certifiably fed up with that shit.

Wait, What!? Four tones or agree/disagree? Is this Mass Effect or the Shite that was the choice system of Fallout 4? Either i don't have enough information on what that entails or this is just awfully limiting.

It's actually more like the system from DA 2 & Inquisition, where one has different emotions with which to respond to situations. (Diplomatic, Sarcastic, and Aggressive, for Dragon Age 2) and (Positive, Aggressive, Sad, Stoic, Diplomatic, *Special* Mage *Special* Historical, and *Special* Nobility for Inquisition.) There's also simple *Arrow* options, which are used in dialogue not requiring a special emotion. The videos also show that Andromeda will include the Approve/Disapprove mechanic for companions that's pretty popular.
