Motorsport Manager Review

Have you come up with any clever strategies in Motorsport Manager?

Once or twice I've managed to make huge gains in rapidly changing conditions, because there's about +20 sec to be gained per lap by being on the right tyre. That means inters vs wets, slicks vs inters, etc. On a macro scale, I've found it's pretty much essential to focus your team on reliability (100%) for the first three or so rounds of the championship, then develop performance after that. You'll make up so many places from other cars retiring in this manner.

Do vehicles in Motorsport Manager handle realistically?

They don't look convincing on track, but they're realistic enough in terms of tyre wear, reliability and overtaking frequency.

Does Motorsport Manager make you feel powerful?

Yes. After about 80 hours of struggle with Predator Racing Group, in my case. It can also make you feel tremendously frustrated and powerless, as I'm sure many lower-tier team bosses feel most Sundays.

What kind of decisions does Motorsport Manager ask you to make?

It's a game about decisions. Budgeting, race strategy, car development, tyre/fuel strategy, hiring/firing, aesthetics, sponsorships...

Is Motorsport Manager faithful to the sport?

In a field of pretty much one, it's the most faithful.

If you're really concerned with making it about Formula One, you can use Steam Workshop mods to get pretty close. I've found it most enjoyable to accept it as a piece of motorsport fiction and make my mark within it.

Does Motorsport Manager portray the sport well?

It portrays many aspects of it in the way you'd want it to, yes. Then again, it doesn't feature official F1 licensing so that'll be a turnoff for some players. Then AGAIN, there's Steam Workshop support now with tons of F1 mods, so...

Rules and regs aren't 1:1 with Formula One because the game isn't trying to simulate it 1:1. It creates an ecosystem very much like F1 that you're able to effect on a large scale and in moment-to-moment racing though, which is as much as anyone could wish for.

How fun are the vehicles to control in Motorsport Manager?

69
Phil Iwaniuk (after 6 days 9 hours play time)

Control is limited to telling the drivers which engine mode to use and how much to take out of their tyres. It's very authentic to the real sport in this era of constant fuel/tyre management. There are four engine modes and five driving styles to choose from.

Also fine. Better than the mobile version, but definite room for improvement in any possible subsequent titles.

Why do gamers keep coming back to Motorsport Manager

To be honest, it's taken this long to get Predator Racing Group out of the ERS and into a dominant position at the WMC, which is what I set out to do in the first place. There's a satisfying feedback loop of improving your car incrementally between races and watching the fruits of that work manifest on track, too.
