The new Tomb Raider movie is closely following the 2013 game

From the look of the first set photos and comments from star Alicia Vikander, next year’s Tomb Raider movie is sticking closely to the 2013 videogame that rebooted the iconic series so successfully.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie sees Lara Croft working an ordinary day job in London before her career as an adventurer begins. A clue leads her to search for her presumed-dead archaeologist father (Dominic West), and the raiding of tombs commences.

“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits,” Vikander says, “but we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought he was a stuck-up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.”

The latest photo of Vikander on the set also reveals how closely the producers are keeping to the look of the Tomb Raider reboot – she is the spit of Lara Croft, circa 2013.

It’s all quite encouraging, really. It’s become more than a cliche now to say we still haven’t had a truly great videogame movie, but it’s no less true for that. I feel like we all got our hopes up for Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed and were, ultimately, still disappointed. Could this be the one?

Little sad. While she's ok, there were so many better looking choices for Lara Croft out there.
