Update September 13, 2017: We asked Ni no Kuni's series director about the prospect of the original game making its way to PC.

Speaking with PCGamesN, Akihiro Hino says there's "no comment for a PC port of Ni no Kuni at the moment," but that "I would love to see it happen, since we hear a lot of requests from all Ni no Kuni fans around the world."

Keep an eye on our upcoming PC games list for more future hits.

Hino reiterated his fondness for our platform when asked about Ni no Kuni II, which is confirmed to be coming to PC.

"I am a big fan of PC games," he says. "There is a big market for PC games, especially in the West. A PC version of Ni no Kuni II was exactly a challenge I wanted to face, not only as a game creator, but also as the president of [developers] Level-5."

Ni no Kuni is an epic JRPG and an emotional coming-of-age story. It explores themes of adventure, dreams, and a child's relationship with their mother - it also boasts a lovely art style, heavily influenced by thefilms of Studio Ghibli.

Beloved of many, rumours of a PC port have been circulating since the sequel was confirmed for our platform - and especially since the French Bandai Namco Twitter account announced one in an apparent mistake (see original story, below).

Update August 22, 2017: So... Ni no Kuni might be coming to PC, it turns out. Despite stating that Ni no Kuni wouldn't be coming to PC just two months ago, PC Gamer have published part of an interview with Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino that implies otherwise.

Nothing has been confirmed, but PC Gamer asked Hino about the chances of seeing Ni no Kuni on PC. His response was a coy "I'll leave that up to your imagination for now, but stay tuned for more official announcements. I'll leave it at that."

So, that's not a confirmation, but perhaps Level-5 have something up their sleeves for a Ni no Kuni PC release.

Update June 13, 2017: Bandai Namco have now clarified that Ni no Kuni is not coming to PC, despite them tweeting to the contrary.

When writing the story, we reached out the the UK PR team and they have said the tweet was made in error. We've also since heard from Bandai Namco France, confirming as much.

Sorry for getting your hopes up!

Original: It’s a good day to be a JRPG fan on PC. Not only are we getting Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom later this year, but the first game is also coming to our beloved platform.

If you didn’t play the first game, it takes you to the kingdom of Ding Dong Dell, a Ghibli-esque fairy-tale land filled with fantastical creatures.

Even if the story, music, and deep RPG combat mechanics don’t grab you, its hand-painted visual design certainly will. It looks amazing on last-gen consoles, so it’ll look absolutely fantastic on PC.

News of the port comes via the French Bandai Namco Twitter account. One French fan asked, “Will you bring out 1 on pc too?” - translated via Google. To which they replied:

Even if your grasp on French isn’t great, I’m sure you know what “oui” means. It means yes. The rest means: “it’s planned.” Excellent.
