PAYDAY 2 Review

There's loads of DLC for Payday 2 on Steam. Should a new player buy it all?

Pixelsprite (after 45 days 6 hours play time)

Whether you get the DLC is dependent upon how much you like to spend on games and how much you get into PD2. Play PD2, get an idea of how much you like it. It goes on sale at -75% often, so you could wait until then to get the DLC.

It depends on how much do you want to spend.
After 800+ Hours i can tell that most of them are Worth.
But even with that i recommend everyone to see reviews on Youtube, there are specialized channels that explain the DLCs one by one and tell if they are worth or not.

PS: Sorry for my English, as you can see its.... em.... Horrible....

Not all. There are some DLC weapons that are direct upgrades, but many others are just sidegrades. The DLC heists can also be played if you don't own them, you just can't host.

No; stay away from the DLC. The core game has plenty to do, with many different mission types, and this has been expanded by free DLC. If you do all that and feel like you just can't get enough, then the DLC should be explored on a case-by-case basis.

Payday 2's DLC depends on how much you can spend and how much are you good at the game, for example a new player should probably buy 1 dlc that can be used for LOUD missions called SOKOL CHARACTER PACK which gives you GRINDER PERK DECK, it is a perk skill that is used by many and it's really strong.

How well does PAYDAY 2 let you develop your character?

Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

Each of Payday's characters has an unlock tree, allowing you to increase their abilities over time. The more you play, the more options you'll have in the field. It's a slow progression though, and does demand an awful lot of time to gain the highest tiers of equipment and perks.

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

It feels like anti-progression. The games gets easier as you develop your character. You get access to more skills and weapons, but the enemies don't get harder, even on the highest difficulty it can be a breeze.

How realistic is PAYDAY 2?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

It's a game about four men shooting an army of police. And when I say army, I mean army. We're talking a few hundred coppers per match. I don't believe this is how the real world reacts to bank robberies. No, Payday is not very realistic.
Also, I've never heard of a drill that manages to pack-up after two minutes of use so consistently. Don't the developers of Payday keep their guarantee receipts?

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

Not very. It's more inspired by Hollywood action and crime thrillers, particularly Point Break, Heat, Reservoir Dogs and The Town.

How does PAYDAY 2 reward you for playing tactically?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

You get away with more money, basically. If you fluff up a job, you'll get everyone dead and score no money, or perform poorly and get less money. Good planning and a careful approach will mean that the cops won't be alerted as soon, allowing you to get more of the job done without hindrance.

How sneaky can you be in PAYDAY 2?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

Some maps allow you to be very sneaky, others demand a more brutish approach. Stealth is not applicable universally, but when it's an option it's normally a solid one. It does amount to you being quiet and keeping out of sight though, rather than taking in any Sam Fisher-like equipment.

How good an FPS is PAYDAY 2?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

It's not great. The guns have next to no weight or feedback, lack interesting modifications, and generally feel a bit pea-shooter-y. Considering a lot of Payday is spent shooting people, it's a shame it's gunplay isn't more fun. It very much relies on the chaos and thrill of the actual crime.

How funny is PAYDAY 2?

Pixelsprite (after 45 days 6 hours play time)

Lots of humor in PD2 if you are into the game. It is arguably more comic than serious.

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

Not at all, really. It's got clown masks, but they're not funny haha. There's an element of absurdity to four criminals gunning down an army of cops, but it's not a comedy.

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

There are some absurdly funny moments. Rescuing goats stuffed with cocaine up their butts is up there.

Does PAYDAY 2 glorify criminals?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

Yeah, pretty much. You have a secret base filled with money that's accessed by using a statue of Lady Justice as a secret switch. You have very swish and expensive suits and tailor-made masks that you can afford because you're so swimming in dollar. If you do the crime, you get the money is Payday's message. If you take that seriously though, you probably work for Fox News.

Absolutely. 100%.

Would you buy at full price or wait for a PAYDAY 2 sale?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

Wait for a sale. There's some redeeming features to Payday 2's design, and if you're interested in the concept there's fun to be had. But it's far from excellent, it's not a great shooter, and full-price is just too much.

Pixelsprite (after 45 days 6 hours play time)

Sale. -$75%.

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

Payday 2 always goes on sale for 75%+ off. With the amount of DLC too, it's worth getting on sale.

How good are the graphics in PAYDAY 2?

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

Passable. It's not an ugly game, but it's quite a flat looking world. It's all just a bit bland.

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

About average for a 2013 game running on a ten year old engine.

How good are the sounds in PAYDAY 2?

Pixelsprite (after 45 days 6 hours play time)

Soundtrack is very good. There's tons of voice acting. A stronger area for the game than its graphics.

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

The soundtrack by Simon Viklund is probably the biggest highlight. A mix of tons of genres, but largely electronic and house.

How does PAYDAY 2 run on your PC?

Pixelsprite (after 45 days 6 hours play time)

Not very intensive. You can certainly run it quite ably on older hardware.

manders (after 92 days 14 hours play time)

It's a mid-spec game for 2013, but the engine is really old and can mean the bigger missions will drop FPS quite frequently. I can play The Witcher 3 on max settings but Payday 2 has problems. There are also infrequent but annoying crashes.

How does PAYDAY 2 reward teamplay?

Pixelsprite (after 45 days 6 hours play time)

There are a few things that require team play. It is definitely a team-oriented game and very much at its best when you play with friends.

Why do gamers stop playing PAYDAY 2 after a short period

93
Matt Purslow (after 6 hours play time)

1245 days ago

I don't have any friends who play, and I've found - like Left Dead - playing with strangers just isn't entertaining. Since the game itself is only just about fine, I'd need a social angle to pull me back in.
