I'm not saying it was a good thing. Just that it was what was needed by the law:
"Failure to "police" a mark by stopping infringing uses can result in the loss of protection."
Infringement comes down to the "likelihood of confusion test" So where we, as gamers, might easily tell the difference between games, lawyers probably do not - to them a game is a game no matter the content.
As I said earlier, what annoys me is the "woe, woe, we had to do it" atitude whilst doing nothing to affect change of that law.
"likelihood of confusion test"
You forgot last, very important part: "by the potential customer". Where customers are gamers who CAN tell the difference.
Well, that not entirely true. MMOs cant be cracked. I have a feeling most games in the future will end up being server based.
But that will be the death of games for many if that happens. Because EA is notorious for shutting down a server, and imagine trying to play one of your favorite games years from now when a servers been shut down. That will not fly with most users.
Pay 2 win in a co-op game? Right.
Not on PC!
Huh, I was pretty sure that xInput games did.
Well, it's really not that crazy considering the power. Wonder how well it will be supported by the mobo vendors, so you can save on that.
You're right, considering the server/workstation power it's not that nuts. The time saving on rendering alone could make it worth the money. For us gamers though...
The mobo guys will love it tbough - a great excuse to put out new premium priced motherboards cos it's the high-end desktop market!
Though maybe the fact that Kaby Lake-X is just going to run dual-channel memory and not have so many cores will prompt them to make more affordable, cut-down X299 boards.
Heh, maybe. But my case doesn't have enough space for 4 ssd (both in terms of space for SATA SSDs that plug in into the drive bay and in terms of pci-e slots) and I need at least 1tb to be comfortable with all the shit I install/play.
Yeah, in that case it's going to have to be an old spinning platter then I'm afraid, unless you start saving. 1TB SSDs are still about £300/$300 :(
