Is it truly harder than hiring the Nostalrius people as contractors for community engagement with a special provision for alternative game builds? It seems like they could have come up with something and I bet they will.Reply
Jenks Avatar

They can definitely come up with something. The fact that they haven't for so many years is proof enough that they don't want to. Hopefully the community continues to kick and scream, and not fall for this pristine server bait which does not address the bulk of what vanilla wow fans are asking for.

To point out a few that haven't been mentioned:

Shogun Total War 2 (especially the Fall of the Samurai DLC)

Wolfenstein the New Order (The best FPS released in the last few years IMO and must be played with a mouse and keyboard to be appreciated)

Cities Skylines

Path of Exile

Crusader Kings 2 (this has a steep learning curve but is well worth it)

Sins of a Solar Empire (check out the STA3 Mod too)

I second these picks.

World of Warships release date is today, champagne bottles at the readyWorld of Warships release date is today, champagne bottles at the ready

This game is great. The different types of ships have gameplay style very different from the others, even though they share the same basics of aiming, leading, etc. I think carriers are more fun than artillery in WoT because you need to worry about protecting planes and forming good attack angles or, if you would rather be a protector, stopping other carriers from doing the same by using fighters.

When you nail a good citadel hit and knock out a formerly full health cruiser, burn down a battleship just before it fires the volley that kills you, punish an enemy from the grave with a lucky long-range torpedo as a destroyer, or get a sweet drop from your carrier's bombers that takes out an enemy carrier it is such an awesome rush.

For a gamer interested in a slightly slower paced shooter, this games has been awesome.

I haven't played this one yet, but the first two Trine games were short too if I recall. I thought of them as focused on visuals and presentation and not really on story and damn they were good looking. This makes me sad whether it is because the dev reached/overpromised or because people expected too much.

If you play the recorded sound of keys being pressed backwards it sounds like they are saying "Feed the keys and so your soul will be mine" on a loop. Those people at XBox are only trying to protect our souls.

Lorne Lanning on VR: a lot of developers “are in lala land”Lorne Lanning on VR: a lot of developers “are in lala land”

Concerns like this make it seem like Oculus is right to have a curated store front. I also think the hyper enthusiasm from developers is better than a hardware maker trying to convince devs to make things for it.

That said, are most of the big names in gaming that are down on VR because of the experience with VR in the 90s? Seems like there have been a few that have popped up using that as an example lately.

I noticed that trend too. A lot of those developers who lived through the 90s seem to be very jaded to the VR idea. Here's hoping they're proved wrong hmm.

Wow. I never tried it so I can't say if it was good or bad, but what a disaster for them. I feel sorry for all the people that must have worked hard to get it out there just to see it fail so miserably that they had to shut it down within a year.

MOBAs are worse than MMOs for the competitive genre. It really is dog eat dog out there.

Tinker tinker tinker. You would think this was a free to play game with all the updates! I'll have to try it out.

I've recently really gotten into EU4. I had it sitting in my library since release but didn't touch it for what ever reason (mainly CK2).

Anyway, EU4 is an amazing game, it is incredibly .... interesting to play. And most importantly, it's not at all as difficult to get into as people often claim about Paradox games. Give it a try.

PS: I don't have any of the DLC and still have a blast with it.
