State of Decay 2 PC performance review: buggy around the edgesState of Decay 2 PC performance review: buggy around the edges
Harry Shepherd Avatar

Hi Jofi,

Thanks for your suggestion. We tried using windowed mode and found that the frame lock was removed. We have updated the article accordingly.

Now that I got my hands on this game myself, I tested it and believe the windowed mode might actually just push the FPS little higher so it doesn't lock but if you can still get it to drop enough it will lock to 30. This causes FPS bouncing between 30-60 on lower end cards and feels awful.

But unlike in SoT beta, here I was able to remove this adaptive vsync even in fullscreen by disabling vsync for the game from nvidia settings or using their fast sync option. Users who actually experience tearing and need the normal vsync will have even worse performance if their fps drops. Hopefully they patch this issue.

State of Decay 2 PC review: bugs hold back refined zombie bashingState of Decay 2 PC review: bugs hold back refined zombie bashing
Zombielord Ativan Avatar
You say that, "Like the original game, death in State of Decay 2 is less about zombies and more about the hundreds of seemingly mundane decisions you must make to resist oblivion for one more day. " This is precisely what makes both the original and the new game so annoying. It takes the absolute worst aspects of squad based FPS games and enhances them to an extreme degree, because now you have to manage not just one squad, but entire communities. I like Z games, not Zzzzzzzzz games.
Harry Shepherd Avatar

I understand what you mean and the tasks you need to complete are, on the face of it, quite boring. But, when things go wrong and you have to risk members of your squad to get medicine and food, it is pretty satisfying.

That said, if the first game wasn't for you, this certainly won't be, either.

“if we never did anything with it other than launch the game, people should feel they got their money’s worth. We’re not selling promise, we’re selling a product.”

I love the subtle dig at other titles and studios in the genre. He's not wrong, that's for sure. The game certainly looks interesting, and it'll be cool to see what the talented people in this team can bring to games of this style.
Harry Shepherd Avatar

Frostkeep have definitely thought carefully about how other studios do things, and about the survival genre more generally.

I'm interested in the game, too, especially the Reckonings. If you get a good group together I think those will be really cool.

Subnautica guide: map, multiplayer, mods, creatures, and items to ensure your survivalSubnautica guide: map, multiplayer, mods, creatures, and items to ensure your survival
MrMeadors Avatar
Subnautica is one of the best games I've played, and is honestly only missing one major piece, which is multiplayer. But the question is will Subnautica ever have co-op. Allot of people would love to see it happen and many don't realize that Subnautica was made a single player game and is only made for a single player meaning extensive work would need to be done or they support mods which may not be as hard but likely still difficult. Then the whole mod thing only works if some people decide they really want multiplayer.
Harry Shepherd Avatar

Yeah exactly. Having spoken to the devs it's clear it isn't just a matter of adding another player It would completely change the game to have multiplayer so it would take years of work. It would also reducer the sense of dread and loneliness - the atmosphere this creates is one of my favourite parts of the game.

Man i finished witcher 3 still got hearts of stone 20% to complete and whole blood and wine. I was just wondering can they make a game about when Geralt was travelling with Ciri as she was becoming a witcher? Because in the quest log if you read the last mission at the end it says something like if you were wondering what happened during that time it's compeletly diffrent story to tell. Maybe we won't lose Geralt and Ciri? I really hope so. And beefore you say i know there's diffrent endings but the game would depend on the ending you choose and if Ciri was lost than she just somehow comes back because it's not 100% that she died during the bad ending. Anyway this is the best game ever I love it so much. Thanks for the anwsers.
Harry Shepherd Avatar

That's a really nice tease - I completely missed that! Also a very cool idea, I'd really like to play a Witcher game with a younger Ciri. Unfortunately, all indications point towards Geralt not coming back, or at least not for a long time. You've also got loads to look forward to with the DLC: Hearts of Stone is one of the best Witcher stories ever and Blood and Wine is also excellent. We did a few features recently to celebrate the first game's 10th anniversary, so be sure to give them a read: https://www.pcgamesn.com/the-witcher/the-witcher-10th-anniversary

GTA Online is massive, but surely we couldn't go without GTA 6! There are plenty of people playing online, but there are still plenty more out there itching for another single-player experience (like me).

Oh yeah, sure!

Sooner or later, there is gonna be a proper GTA VI, I'm just saying the pacing could be different know, that the online component is the most important one, with a lifespan much longer than a simple SP game.

I felt that with B2, too. Did you play it on your own? I did and I imagine it's much better with pals in co-op.

Yeah, I don't have friends. QQ

It should definitely be better in co-op, the mobs are quicker to finish, and the bosses easier to beat.

If they don't scale. I'm lazy to check if they scale.
