AMD Vega - reviews, news, performance, and availabilityAMD Vega - reviews, news, performance, and availability

My ancient gtx560 died recently (not totally). I can still play some games but on low settings. Im looking for a replacement card. Should I go buy a rx480 8gb now or should I wait for the 500 series. And also when is the release date of the new radeon series?

To be the devils advocate, if the most recent incarnations of amdS gpus have any distinct and meaningful hardware legacies in vega, then its tempting to be closer to the vega ecosystem.

dunno, but i dont think much changed betw 480 & 580 - both are 14nm polaris?

if u gpu is so old, u r easy to please for a while.

u could go below the level miners want & escape that premium, spend $150 on an amd polaris gpu, wait a year & get vega, sell polaris for $80?

some folks mainly want modern connectors on their pc - too much power is a pain, & the cheapest such card is ~90usd new. it should sell ok.

the brand escapes me, but its well known asian one - i hear good things about their factory OC 470 gpu cards, cheap, may only be 4GB tho.

Whatever, I am skeptical they will compete well against amdS apuS.

Incidentally, some one keen could calculate the zen/vega APU perf numbers I think.

They have stated the figures for the new apuS relative to AMDs current apu, so viola, just extrapolate from those older benchmarks.

So because some anachronistic games are single threaded, u advise going with an extra 46 points on a 7700k, instead of an extra ~450 points in cpu performance from r1700 in multii-threaded. O,KAYE?

Gotta love that max tdp too. 65w and tdp not much hotter than a hot day here in oz. That alone would tempt me - & i still have a reserve of power if i need to overclock later.

If i recall right from my reading tho, the killer value cpu will be the 6 core r5, but the savings and the wait isnt worth it for many.

a factor that would weigh on me heavily in choosing would be what vega brings to the table both absolutely, and via synergies with a sister amd processor. its hard to believe an amd combo wont have major synergies.
I do wish writers would briefly remind us of the included? cooling fan situation. All that is shown is the bare chip afaik. I prefer to avoid the fuss/stress with conductive grease etc.
