Even if they release next gen tommorow, it would still take several months for market to be affected. Q3 is probably for full lineup of cards and complete production switch to new gen. xx70 and xx80 launch would still be in the next couple of months, imo.....
Aye, a Q2 release is defo a possibility. But if they're not launching in March at GDC or GTC that's two of their traditional big launch windows gone. Maybe around Computex? Though that's unlike Nvidia too.
Bah, I just want me some exciting new GPUs! C'mon...
You're right, it doesn't. They could announce new consumer cards at GTC for a launch in April, but Nvidia have said they're focusing on AI and automotive at the show, so is looking unlikely.
Also the 3DCenter 'source' was just speculation from their forum members, which was then represented by the wider media as something more.
I agree about the rumors from 3DCenter, it's just speculation. One of the sources for all the Ampere stuff along with Heise article is Igor Wallossek. He is some tech journalist who said that he has insider info about Nvidia's internal roadmap with name Ampere being on it set for Q2 2018. It would be great if someone could acutally get in contact with him and try to find out if he's lying or maybe he has some evidence for that after all.
That doesn't mean that they're wont announce next gen in late march and hold a launch event in april. As i remember, original source from 3dcenter never mentioned launch in late march.
If you need to arrange transportation to a GPU launch event, as we did last year for the 1080 Ti GDC launch, then that kinda is how it works. They're not going to tell us when the next-gen will launch, but did say there won't be new cards at this GDC.
