Just curious if you meant to say Solar System instead of Galaxy...

"The Long Journey Home tries to be faithful to the rules of astronomy while still being fun, so travelling around within galaxies takes into account orbits and gravitational pulls (y’know, physics-y stuff) that you need to carefully thrust yourself into."

Otherwise, looks like an interesting game. Especially if it's FTL mixed with that other one... xD

How's the multiplayer? Civ4's was great at launch, Civ5's was terrible at launch (e.g., no saving your game), and is still buggy.
Robert Zak Avatar

Haven't managed to play it yet, as naturally no one was online pre-release. Will be putting it through its paces this weekend.

I'm quite happy to see that there's an new 'Online' game speed though, which is even quicker than 'Quick' and twice as fast as a normal game. There are also 3 multiplayer scenarios, all of which look like they can be completed in a single evening's play. Hopefully there'll be more of those to come.

Of course, all of that will be for nothing if it's as broken as the Civ V multiplayer. Stay tuned.

Yes, there are a few out there (Serious Sam's another one), but my point is that it's far too rare. Also, Black Ops 3 only allows 2 players, not 4, I think(?) so even then they cut down from the console's features.

On the other hand, I totally accept the possibility that I might one of the few PC gamers who cares about split-screen in this day and age...

Do you know if it'll be possible to play co-op on different monitors?

Deus Ex: Revision vs. Mankind Divided - why I jilted Jensen for DentonDeus Ex: Revision vs. Mankind Divided - why I jilted Jensen for Denton

Yes, games should stand on their own. So Gunther should be inspected without the need to read a couple of books (that were written over 10 years after the game in which he featured - should everyone have withheld commentary on Gunther for that long?).

As for Jensen, I'm not inspecting his character so much as the quality of his writing, which is, in my opinion, shoddy. Maybe there's more to him in the books - I don't and I won't know - but that's irrelevant to me if it fails to translate to the games.

Well this article about him was also written just now... so yes?

Also I find it dissapointing that you care enough to write about these games but also care so little that you have no interest to consider reading those books :(

But yeah HR and MD have writing issues if you just play games.

'Perverse interest' really is the best way in which to approach the CtP games (though comparing them to Zelda is maybe a bit harsh!). It's kind of fun to embrace the weird dystopian world that CtP envisions from the modern age onwards.

I feel like Alpha Centauri had different goals to the main Civs. Despite its 4X affiliation, it seemed awkward to compare a tightly-storied game set among alien races to the more sandboxy, decidedly Earthly Civ series.

Call to Power 2 was a bit of a liberty, but it was the direct sequel to what was technically a Civ game, offered the same 'guide an empire' fantasy, and even inspired certain features seen in subsequent games. It's an under-appreciated nugget of Civ history!

Alpha Centauri is a Civ game for all intents and purposes. It was Sid Meier's clever way of making a Civilization game during a period when he didn't have the rights to the franchise.

Battlefield 1 is clanky, rickety, and pleasantly refreshingBattlefield 1 is clanky, rickety, and pleasantly refreshing

In my interview with the director, Lars Gustavsson, he said that the destruction will be completely dynamic, so it won't just be a case of depleting a building's health bar which will eventually trigger it to collapse, but instead buildings will respond more realistically to how you damage them.

He also said that destruction can be used more strategically, so you can artillery-strike a field, then have the soldiers running through it use the craters for cover.

Sound like good improvements all in all!

Thank you, I have seen a fair bit of gameplay footages and the destruction is out in full force.
