Why didn't Tyranny sell? Paradox on Obsidian's RPG "everyone was hoping would do better"Why didn't Tyranny sell? Paradox on Obsidian's RPG "everyone was hoping would do better"

I think there are many reasons that in combination can explain it somewhat.
1. It's a kind of weird-looking game, hard to grasp.
2. It's very brown, to the point of being rather unattractive.
3. You play the bad guy, or so it seems. I think that's not as tempting as one might think.
4. The combat got a lot of negative comments.
5. Yeah, there are a fair few of these games now.
6. With Paradox there's always the fear of DLC-madness. Combine that with the apparent shortness of the actual game.
7. You can't play it while watching Netflix and doing your taxes. Just kidding. That would be a dumb thing to say.

“its purely to allow a route for players to earn things by playing so they aren't forced to pledge for them but this is entirely optional.”

This is the very definition of pay to win. They will always try this "it's optional"-speech, but pay to win is if a player can buy what another player has to work for.

Both players had to work for it, it's just that one had to do real work, contributing to society, to earn the money to pay for that item, instead of doing "work" in a video games to earn said item.

still don't get the point of this, sure I use it on my Xperia tablet out in the garden, but why would I play a game in the house through a secondary system?
Stinkflipper Incarnate Avatar

Well, I can't tell you why YOU would do it, but I can tell you why I would do it: The TV in my household is shared, while the computer in my office is all mine.

The honest feedback thread
Stinkflipper Incarnate Avatar
So... currently, I find the front page (especially the top part of it) incredibly messy. Ads, requests for reviews of my steam games, user reviews, try these pay to win games, spotlight... plus, the introductions for the individual articles often just cut off with "...".

Worth pointing out that the current Mastertronic has nothing to do with the Mastertronic you remember from the eighties. They simply bought the name, many years after the original Mastertronic was closed/absorbed by Sega.

I read about this the other day, apparently it's a volcano sim for a science center or something that's already playable there. If I understood it correctly, it won't get a public release.

Open world games are becoming too bloated to be funOpen world games are becoming too bloated to be fun

I agree that TW3 really shows how this kind of content should be created. It's going to be very hard to go back to something like DA:I now. Oh my Gods, those annoying shards, and the fact that I put up with that shit. I remember one, I spent ages trying to platform-jump my way to it (and DA:I was so very much not a platformer...), and I was literally fuming by the time I got it. Apparently there was an easier way, but still, I have no idea why it mattered to me to get that lousy shard. I was certainly over-powerful already, and didn't need the bonus from the shard rooms.

.

That said, even TW3 stumbled a bit, on Skellige. There were way too many smuggler crates / shipwrecks with sirens or drowners. And those mini treasure hunts (where you'd have to loot & read some note, go 50 meters and pick up whatever the note referred to) got very tiresome.

Yeah, those scavenger hunts were pretty poor, but they make up a really tiny part of the game so I'm more inclined to forgive it, even though I'd prefer to see less of that nonsense.

It's odd how I've managed to become sick and tired of The Division BEFORE it's even launched.

Some developers are struggling with Steam refundsSome developers are struggling with Steam refunds
Stinkflipper Incarnate Avatar

Two hours is clearly way too much time. If you haven't figured out if you like a game enough to keep it within the first hour, you should not be entitled to a refund.

I dunno about that. I bought Void Destroyer which claimed it had "Full support" for HOTAS setups. It didn't work properly with my Warthog setup though. I spent at least an hour troubleshooting over Steam messages with the dev, to no resolution.

.

Granted it was cool that he tried to help me, but it was also for his own benefit of fixing his game. Having an hour of my time (actual time, and Steam playtime) used for mostly his benefit, and then telling me i couldn't get a refund, wouldn't be cool in the slightest...
