You’ll soon be able toast headcrabs with fire as Spyro comes to Half-Life

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

If you just can’t wait for the Spyro Reignited Trilogy to make its way to PC, then I might have a little something extra to help tide you over – a modder is adding everyone’s favourite purple dragon to Half-Life.

Check out our list of the best FPS games on PC.

The modder, who goes by the internet moniker Magic Nipples (why not?) posted a short video of Spyro running around Half-Life’s world with the caption “yes, I’m putting Spyro in Half-Life.” At the moment, the project seems pretty simple, but Spyro seems to fit the world (if not the color scheme) pretty well. Mr Nipples says he’s going to continue developing the mod, and will continue to post updates to the project via Twitter.

Magic Nipples seems to be a relatively prolific Half-Life modder. A cursory glance at their ModDB page shows plenty of pre-existing mods, from reconstructions of early Half-Life builds to a demake of Half-Life 2 in the Goldsource engine. That made adding Spyro to Half-Life reasonably easy, especially since “his PS1 model has the same poly counts and texture detail” found in much of the rest of the game, making him a pretty good fit – stylistically, at least.

Sadly, if this doesn’t quite scratch your Spyro itch, you could be waiting a while for anything new. While the Spyro Reignited Trilogy – Activision’s full remake of the first three Spyro the Dragon games – is due for release in September, there’s currently no word on a PC date. It’s like that the game will follow the same project as the recent Crash Bandicoot remake, which launched for PS4 last year and is due to arrive on PC and Xbox later this summer.
