They're very... simplistic. They meet their needs and get the job done, but they're very plain. It's like if you took a cube and slid it on the floor. It works great on flat surfaces but acts clunky on bumpy or uneven terrain.
The best driving mechanics I've seen in a game are not from a racing game or simulator, but Halo: Reach on Xbox 360. This is based solely on how the vehicle reacts to the terrain. The suspension actually works, the tires grip what's under them, and the vehicles traverse like fluid over the setting.
To compare Squad to Reach, Squad is like GTA San Andreas. Press Left to go Left, Right to go Right. Forward to move. Back to reverse into a wall and get stuck.
The devs have talked about their plans to update this.

They are decent. They look good in some places but bad in others. Call it a mix between Rainbow Six Siege and RUST. A lot was scaled back while they try to solve optimization issues.

60 FPS max settings. Same with others on varying builds.
Though, I wonder if it could do better. There are not many games to compare it to. ARMA 3 and Squad are built differently and utilize two different, unique engines. How either accomplish visuals or virtual trickery is unbeknownst to me. Still, it runs better than ARMA 3 vanilla for me.
