Bethesda’s Pete Hines says “both The Evil Within and Rage did well enough we could make sequels”

The Evil Within 2

QuakeCon continues to leak out tidbits of future plans from the Zenimax / Bethesda super-conglomerate of RPGs, shooters and grisly horror games. Pete Hines, Vice Pres at the publisher, spoke to Finder.com.au about two of their one-and-done games and whether they were likely to make a comeback. The answer is, at least as far as sales go, both Rage and The Evil Within could “warrant a sequel.”

For what they’ve got out currently, here’s a bunch of the best RPGs.

In the interview, Finder.au.com say that Hines responded “(without hesitation) Yes!” when asked about The Evil Within, and “I think so” for Rage. One slightly less certain than the other there, perhaps, but both a possibility.

“I can’t talk about the unannounced stuff and what we may or may not do,” says Hines, refusing to elaborate. “I get myself in trouble whenever I do that. Even when we were talking about the Morrowind Remaster, if I come out and say, ‘I just don’t think that is going to happen,’ then people freak out.

“So I won’t confirm or deny stuff we may or may not do, as people jump to the wrong conclusions. But I do think both The Evil Within and Rage did well enough that we could make sequels. Personally I loved Rage and had a tonne of fun playing it, but we have a lot of stuff in the pipeline right now so you will have to wait and see.”

We’ve heard a lot from Bethesda about how much they’re working on, but not specifically what it is. After the success of Fallout 4, it looks like they (and much of the industry) are reducing major marketing cycles to six months or less, not letting people get bored of games before they’re out. Obviously, The Elder Scrolls VI is coming eventually, even if we know nothing about it. The New Colossus looks to be the next Wolfenstein.

Would you play a new Evil Within game? It’s been on my to-do list for a while, but a natural disposition to being a tiny baby scared of everything as well as the mountain of games to play has stopped me. How about Rage? It’s never been the most popular game, and its poor reputation - rather separate from its actual quality, which I found to be totally fine - would seem to make it a real hard sell.

Here's the full interview for a bit more.

Previously this article wrongly stated The Elder Scrolls VI is in development when, as pointed out by Pete Hines on Twitter, Todd Howard only said it would eventually happen when asked at E3 2016.

Th Evil Within is the perfect mix between classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

The story is awesome, disturbing, weird and you need to re-play it in order to fully understand it, just as a Silent Hill game.

I really hope we get a sequel of this excellent game.
