The Witcher 3 could be getting a sequel because not doing one "wouldn't be fair towards the fans"

It's probably at least a decade off, but it seems like CD Projekt Red aren't done with The Witcher yet. It's no wonder, after the studio nailed the formula on its third attempt, winning ALL of the awards for their effort. Surely another one would be a chance to refine that formula, maybe even perfect it.

Still spending time in the world of The Witcher 3? Here are its best mods.

The Witcher 3 is as close to perfect as RPGs come anyway, and a little more work on its combat system could create something with no equal. I know I'd be keen on seeing a return to its dark world.

After The Witcher 3's triple win at the Game Awards, including Game of the Year, CD Projekt's CEO Adam Kicinski was invited for an interview about the game's success at the Polish TV station TVN24 BiS

"It's too early to talk about it, but it's not like we're forgetting about this brand - that's understandable. It wouldn't be fair towards the fans," said Kicinski. "We work within this universe for over a dozen years now and I don't think it's going to be the end of it."

CD Projekt Red have previously said that The Witcher 3 would be the end of Geralt's adventures, which seems to point towards Ciri being a lead in the series moving forward. The Witcher 3 certainly sets the character up for a leading role, even letting players take control of her for certain key points.

I could get behind playing an entire game as Ciri - she's an interesting character and her unique abilities could lead to some brilliant scenarios. The game wouldn't even have to be restricted to the world of The Witcher. Imagine an RPG on the scale of The Witcher 3, but instead of multiple landmasses, there are multiple dimensions and you can hop between them at will. Yes, please.

As I said, though, this wouldn't be for ages yet, with CD Projekt Red currently focused on finishing up their next RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.

In the same interview, Kicinski had this to say of Cyberpunk 2077: "The project is even more ambitious than we first planned - we need to create a game that will be even more successful. We have a long way ahead of us to reach the biggest commercial successes in the world. Sure, many people consider The Witcher 3 to be the best game in the world this year, but this is not a game that broke any sales record."

Other than Cyberpunk 2077, Geralt will be getting his final adventure mid 2016 with the 20-hour The Witcher 3 expansion Blood and Wine.

Thanks, Gamepressure.

I'd play a game with Ciri as the main character.

I still haven't completed Witcher 3 so I can't say if I would want them to continue the story or not, but I hope they don't force it.

I get that they would want to milk witcher, seeing as how much popularity it has gained, but I feel like CD project red has gotten it's name on everyone's radar well enough that the studio name could draw in the crowd almost as well as the witcher name.

I think they could just start a new original RPG and everyone would be on board. I certainly would.

I do hope they make another witcher game to show the fate of Ciri and all the other characters, it doens't have to be a standalone game, a downloadable content is sufficient enough,

Wouldn't be fair to not give them a sequel? I think the word they were looking for is milking. Milking the hell out of the name while it's still worth something and in everyones mind.

I hope there's a sequel to Witcher 3. As cool as Cyberpunk 2077 looks, I want more of the Witcher!

Isn't there something like a dozen Witcher novels? So there must be plenty of material for more games. Hopefully CDPR will circle back to Witcher in a few years.

Witcher 3 isn't an adaption of any of the novels. The games are meant as a continuation of the story written in the novels - and they ultimately failed in living up to that ambition, especially TW3. So I don't think TW4 would be a good thing. They should just come up with a completely new IP of their own with complete freedom to live out their talents.

Cyberpunk has amazing rpg systems and now it sounds bit like they wanna dumb'em down to make commercial success. I'll end up buying it anyways though.

I'd be totally up for a new Witcher game if they promise to use some of their profits to put in a proper combat system instead of one built for sofa-surfing console jockies as well as a theft system where people go ape if you try stealing under their nose, better collision detection as well.
