The bullet soaking / RPG nature of the game takes away the camping and even satisfaction from sniping. Players will do themselves good by jumping between sniping and forward assault.

If you like heads to pop when you click them, you're going to be disappointed. This is a shooter in which you'll be thinking about DPS, not one-shot-kills, and on the harder modes especially you can expect to sink a whole clip into an enemy - even if you're sinking those bullets into their skull.

There ARE rifles with sniper scopes, however. And lovely big propane tanks strapped to the backs of enemy Cleaners to aim for. Good fun, that.

The sniping is pretty fun especially when you can hit a Flamer's back and make them explode. Best feeling ever.

Not so much. You play as a federal sleeper agent shooting looters. You'll hear your colleagues dismiss your targets as mindless or "animals". The tone errs towards dehumanising rather than empathising.

The Division is pretty much unparalleled for bleakness, certainly within Tom Clancy. There's an early mission that has you navigating the makeshift morgue the city's metro has become. The centrepiece of another is a burning department store Christmas tree. It's by turns bleak and beautiful.

It's not very end world, it's more of the end of New York. But if this spread around the world, it would more or less, be the end of the government actually helping the citizen's and restoring peace.

In all honestly, the game designed on better stats and better weapons/gear instead of being a better player. This is more to do with the design of the game being an Action RPG.

With mission success. The bullet-sponginess of enemies means you have to pay attention to their position and coordinate with teammates to take them down. This is one of the sources of greatest satisfaction in The Division.

It's a mixed bag. Crafting gives you quite good items, but they are not really "special". It's usually just a more powerful version of stuff you can collect or buy elsewhere. I think it's sad that you can't craft unique gear or weapons that have a distinct look at least.

It diverges from the Ubi open world formula by embracing Diablo-style progression systems. You can reattempt past missions on harder difficulties for better loot, that sort of thing. So the possibility of grinding is there if you want it. But I haven't felt any frustration on that front playing through the main missions.

Not much. There are times when you do come across enemies who are significantly higher level than your character, forcing you to do either the previous missions or do some of the extra curriculum activities, all which raise the EXP to level up. There is a good amount of diverse ways to grind so it is isn't all that bad.

It depends how you define grinding and for what it is used. I hate grinding in narrative-driven games that block your progression if you don't dorepetitive stuff and grind. But in a game like The Division grinding is part of the core experience. You play the game for killing people and looting their stuff. The core storyline is nice and creates a very good atmosphere but it's not really the prime reason to play the game. So yeah, there is grinding, but it's not "used in the wrong way".

Sales of The Division have been huge; hopefully that'll guarantee it a steady pool of potential matchmakees for many months to come. Beyond that, it'll still be a great co-op shooter to dig into with friends. So I wouldn't feel any particular pressure to hop in immediately.

Not really. Depends on whether you and your friends already decided to jump in and play together from the start. Co-op/multiplayer is the core to the game, so a good group can make all the difference.

Sale. When I played the free weekend, I played for a very long time, when I bought it, I found out it wasn't that great after you level up pretty far and not a lot of people play with you.

The environmental design department had most likely a lot of fun developing this game. Most of the visuals, while also above average, contrast somewhat with the general environment. The fog, snow and blizzards are just insane though.

The ambiance sound really paints a bleak picture of Manhattan. The voice acting are well done as well. The music kicks up appropriately as action intensifies.
